Brendan Cotter- 29 yo attorney from Clinton NY. Avid runner, 15-20 miles per week, good body composition, has completed a handful of Boilermaker runs(13k) and spends all summer water skiiing (Im jealous). Brendan experienced his first crossfit workout which lasted 6 minutes. Brendan was strong but functional movements were an eye opener to him. After completing the workout he said "that was harder than any boilermaker I have ever run but it felt great". Brendan is committing to OPT starting next week. We will be implementing some diet changes and continuing to push Brendan to new limits here at OPT. Welcome.
Ben Quilty - 26 yo, business man, ha I have no idea what you do bro. Ben is one of the original warriors from OPT. I trained Ben for 2 years before his decision to pursue his masters in NYC. Well Ben is back....he has continued to train for the last two years in NYC and we are looking forward to having him back at OPT. I have high expectations for you! Ben, I will never forget the moments we spent at the old school Y in SU, experimenting with Crossfit, getting asked "what in the hell are you guys doing", not caring what the globogymers thought, our 20 min walks to our cars afterwards because our legs would not function properly, awesome. The friend that you have considering coming to OPT, drag him in the door....trust me, he will never look back. And Erik Quilty, I know you are reading this....i wouldnt let your bro get too much of a head start on you....because you will never catch him!

My visiting Texas Crossfitters...
I was contacted by Kelly who trains at Crossfit Denton County, Texas a week prior to xmas. Her family was headed up to Stockbridge NY for a few days to visit family and her family was interested in training at OPT for 3 days. OPT welcomes all visitors, as long as you leave your ego at the door and want to sweat, everyone is welcome. I had the pleasure to train Kelly, Rocky (awesome name), and Nick for a grueling 3 days. I was very impressed with the progress Kelly, and Rocky (14yo) have made in only 6 months time. Nick has only been crossfitting for 2 weeks before walking into OPT and within minutes I knew we had one strong guy. All 3 survived the experience at OPT and I'm pretty sure they had fun at the same time :) Safe travels, and I hope to see you back at OPT next Xmas with some serious gains!!! :)
2010 Optimum Performance Training Goals....

haha really?
2009 was a great year at OPT. We have produced great athletes out of my 1 stall garage. Our client base is growing weekly and the community spirit is strong. I'm very excited for 2010 and where we are headed. Here is a short list of whats in the works at OPT...
2010-
1) Break ground mid-summer 2010 on a brand new 1200 square foot facility with 12 foot ceilings. Located in the country hills of Oriskany Falls NY on Knoxboro Rd.
2) Introduce Nate Dubach to our current client base. Nate is a licensed Physical Therapist specializing in recovery, and lifestyle management. I am looking forward to adding Nate to the OPT staff, giving our members an opportunity to work with him, becoming more efficient in recovery and learning valuable lifestyle management skills. Nates commitment to his profession will be a great asset to OPT.
3) Watch my clients smash their fitness/nutrition/lifestyle goals.
4) Strengthening the OPT community through sharing ideas, community events, and weekend contests.
5) Have fun and enjoy every moment!

In memory of Jim Cotter
I'll never forget....
I work for the public school system who's population is filled with troubled students from all backgrounds. Its a rare occurence to receive a thank-you from one of our students. Wednesday I received a gift from one of my students that will forever change my life. I have an 8th grade female student who is unpopular with her fellow peers and has a difficult time fitting in. Her father has no part in her life. She has a mental handicap making her "uncool". Her mother works part-time hours at the local burger king, and according to my student she said her mothers hours were cut last week making things alittle harder at home. Perfect timing, just for the holidays, right? She came into school on Wednesday with a gift wrapped with my name on it. I opened the gift and it was a used video game that she bought with her own money. She said she remembers me telling her i liked to play video games because at school on Fridays we let her bring in guitar hero and I play with her.
I will never forget how special that gift is to me. A human being that puts others first, even when their life is tough, everyday. They still have the heart to say thank-you. Merry-xmas to everyone and remember the important things in life.

I'm back....

Sorry I have posted in awhile...i have had alot on my plate. Between hunting, healing my knee and training i've been busy...
So whats wrong with my knee?
I roofed my house Oct 3rd and 4th which put my knees in a weird position for over 16 hours. I had fluid buildup and patella tendonitis. I trained hard for the next 3 weeks, and never gave it a break. Finally the pain was too much so I consulted James Fitz and he recommended I take time off completely from training. I took 10 days off, that was not fun and started back training and my knee still killed. So i gave my friend Nate Dubach who is a licensed physical therapist a call. I was diagnosed with patella tendonitis, and my vastus lateralis, IT band and tensor facia latia and popitius was spasming and i had some nasty fluid build up. 1.5 hours of active release therapy helped tremendously. Yesterday we did 2.5 hours of individual muscle testing and more active release therapy. My knee is back to 85% and is feeling great. Sectionals are coming up in Feburary, and staying healthy will be important.
We have also been working on some reflexology. My adrenals are off, which can be due to lots of things, but mainly stress. I never stop moving, and hate relaxing, and never sit and relax. This is basically crushing my body and not allowing me to train 100% due to my body being over worked daily. I have implemented some relaxation techniques which I am going to be using for now on and am also going to read adrenal fatigue: 21st century stress syndrome, which I highly recommend all crossfitters read because recovery is overlooked and its slowing down our true capabilities.
Im off for now.....
If you arent uncomfortable during your workout, you arent working hard enough....
