I work for the public school system who's population is filled with troubled students from all backgrounds. Its a rare occurence to receive a thank-you from one of our students. Wednesday I received a gift from one of my students that will forever change my life. I have an 8th grade female student who is unpopular with her fellow peers and has a difficult time fitting in. Her father has no part in her life. She has a mental handicap making her "uncool". Her mother works part-time hours at the local burger king, and according to my student she said her mothers hours were cut last week making things alittle harder at home. Perfect timing, just for the holidays, right? She came into school on Wednesday with a gift wrapped with my name on it. I opened the gift and it was a used video game that she bought with her own money. She said she remembers me telling her i liked to play video games because at school on Fridays we let her bring in guitar hero and I play with her.
I will never forget how special that gift is to me. A human being that puts others first, even when their life is tough, everyday. They still have the heart to say thank-you. Merry-xmas to everyone and remember the important things in life.
